What Aegis actually does
What ships in the app today — specifics, not slogans.
1-Click Protection & privacy score
One button runs the recommended lockdown — AI block, location off, telemetry tasks, ransomware guard, ASR rules — after creating a restore point. The privacy score reads hosts file, registry, and Defender — measured from the machine, not a decorative meter.
Block listed AI websites
Stops ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot endpoints, and other domains we maintain from loading on that PC via the Windows hosts file. Full list or by category. Fully reversible.
Telemetry, location & debloat
Cut common Microsoft telemetry endpoints, turn location tracking off, and remove or disable built-in junk from a checklist — recommended preset or pick your own. Live output while it runs. Optional re-apply at login so updates don’t quietly undo you.
Windows Security controls
Aegis is not a separate antivirus. It drives Defender tools already on your PC — scans, Controlled Folder Access, and Attack Surface Reduction rules — and shows live status from Windows.
Startup, junk & network
Manage startup apps, sort background processes Safe / Risky / Don’t Touch, clear temp junk with honest size estimates, watch live outbound connections, and use an emergency disconnect when you mean it.
Protect my photos
Strip GPS and camera metadata before you share. Optional CLIP-style AI protection for people who want it — real technique, not magic. Originals are never overwritten.
Limits (read these)
- Needs Administrator access.
- AI blocking uses the hosts file. A VPN (or Secure DNS bypasses we don’t catch) can still get around it.
- Settings-based changes can reverse in-app. Removed Store apps usually need a reinstall.
- Not a VPN. Not a second antivirus.
- Country blocking exists and is advanced / experimental — it can break software that uses servers in those countries.
Who it’s for
People who want their PC quieter and under their own rules, without digging through twenty Windows Settings panels or running a pile of unsigned scripts from a forum thread.
When sale opens, licenses will be machine-bound and sold through Gumroad. Until then, don’t send money for Aegis — we’re not taking it yet.
FAQ
Can I buy it now?
No. The app isn’t ready for public sale. We’re finishing the installer package, code signing, and Gumroad checkout. Email “notify me when it ships” if you want a heads-up.
Will Windows Security complain?
Sometimes. Hosts-file edits can trip it. Allow the Aegis action in Protection history and try again. Signing helps SmartScreen; it doesn’t silence every hosts warning.
Can I undo things?
Privacy and settings tasks can be reverted from the app. Uninstalled Store apps are not auto-restored. 1-Click Protection creates a restore point first.
